Aluminum alloys 5083 H131 and 7039 T64 are commonly referred to as light
aluminum armor plate. At present, the most widely used armored aluminum alloy is 5083 H131, which has high ductility and stress corrosion cracking resistance, such as amphibious assault vehicles and Bradley combat vehicles. Aluminum alloy 7039 T64 has high strength and can provide better ballistic protection, but it is less used as structural material in ocean and tropical environment because it is more susceptible to stress corrosion cracking.
The most commonly used
aluminum armor plate at 5083 is very corrosion resistant. 7039 is more susceptible to pitting corrosion and profitable corrosion cracking.
The results of accelerated corrosion test show that the excellent comprehensive corrosion of
5083 aluminum armor plate is obvious. Generally speaking, the three kinds of alloys with pretreatment have the best properties. However, when
5083 aluminum armor plate is sandblasted or without pretreatment, a considerable number of bubbles will appear. The accelerated corrosion and outdoor exposure performance of 5083 plate after pretreatment are the best.
